About Cherie

Portrait of Cherie Howe

I’m a highly trained therapist who has been professionally licensed since 1985.

I use techniques from a number of different therapies, according to people’s individual needs, and I’m professionally licensed in a variety of therapies, including SCAR therapy, Reiki Master, Certified SOMA Neuromuscular Integration® therapy, Scar Works® & Rejuvanessance® aka FER®* Therapy, Access Bars® and PEMF & Cryotherapy Practitioner, But I’m best known for Synergy Touch, my own style of Deep Tissue Bodywork.

I describe my therapies as "Synergy Touch" both because it’s treatment + reiki energy, & because it is the synergistic state of working with the client.

I’ve successfully worked with world champion athletes, including elite runners and triathlete competitors in the classic 4 Deserts, Badwater, Comrades, X-Alpine, Marathon des Sables. I regularly treat professional stage and screen actors, rock & classical musicians, international opera singers and professional dancers of all disciplines. As well as acrobats, aerialists, contortionists and equestrians competing in Western & English Pleasure. Ranch, Trail, Rodeo, Barrel racing and Reining horses.

Originally from the Seattle area I moved to West London in 1991. I joined the Hogarth Group in 1999. In 2023 I decided to go global.

I love horseback riding, endurance events, & anything to do with horses. Proper camping & mountain trekking, gardening, oil painting, textile arts like quilting, embroidery & creating hand painted or dyed fabrics, creating stained glass pieces, or cooking for family & friends for fun (my former profession). I also love reading, creative writing, watching all Noir genre films, and working out.

My Approach

Back in 1985 when I was licensed to start practicing, I was just a massage therapist. Thirty six years on and these days I am a Bodyworker & Specialist Massage Therapist, and I couldn’t be happier.  My Bodywork is not only good for my clients, it’s good for me and allows me to keep working in a way that has enabled me to work more easily and will continue to do so for years to come.

My work is a whole-body approach to reducing pain and restrictions whilst rebalancing and realigning the body’s fascial system, I always include Reiki as I work, it is seamless, and adds so much depth to my sessions.

I am even more passionate about my work now than when I started.  Bodies (and their owners) are so remarkably different and interesting, new research is continually uncovering more about them, such as when and how to recruit and work with their inner healing mechanisms.

I treat people or horses, or people and their horses with a combination of Craniosacral and Zero Balancing. They enjoy it immensely, as do I, it unwinds them physically, mentally and emotionally, whilst addressing form (posture) structure (conformation) space & expansion (decompression of internal space.)  Additionally, I specialise in pre and post-surgery, injury recovery work, including scar tissue, back surgeries, knee and hip repair or replacements, neck issues, shoulder repair/RSI and foot/ankle or hand/wrist issues.

For me, this is not just a job, it’s a vocation.

Why I became a therapist

When I was 12, my dad had a bad accident: a horse fell on him and repeatedly rolled on him, breaking his spine in two places. He was told he’d never walk again.

My dad refused to accept his prognosis though, and with the help of surgery and two fantastic, dedicated and caring physiotherapists, he was finally back on his feet and out of hospital. I asked the physios to show me how I could help my dad further when he returned home, and they generously shared some massage techniques with me.

After the whole experience with my dad, I just knew my future lay in helping, rehabilitating and enlivening people.

Why I love working with horses

I grew up on a farm in Olympia, Washington surrounded by dogs, pigs, chickens, horses, cows and wild cats.

I loved helping them if they looked unwell, or stroking them if they needed comfort. The wild cats liked to have their bellies rubbed, and the pigs were always eager for a good ol’ back scratch.
